  Sreemongal is an old and well developed Pourashava and total agricultural land within the Pourashava is only 5.02%. But Sreemongal Pourashava is small in size. Its revenue income is not enough to convey all the expenditure of development works within the Pourashava. So Pourashava is very much dependent on the Government grants and other development funds and loan from organizations like BMDF.

The most important project is the present Project of Cooperative & Local Government Ministry for the preparation of Master Plan up to the year 2031 for Sreemongal Pourashava. It commenced on March 2008 and expected to be completed in 2011. 

Other than this Master plan project under the Upazila Towns Infrastructure Development Project of LGED, there are some other projects. These projects are undertaken through MSU and UGIIP-2 projects of LGED. Physical target of MSU projects within the Pourashava are:

1.   Bituminous carpeting of roads at different locations of the Pourashava.

2.   Brick soling on some portion of roads at different locations

3.   Maintenance and construction of drains within the Pourashava

4.   Construction of guard wall at different roads of the Pourashava

5.   Street lighting for municipal area.

7. A forestation program along the roads.

Again the main vision of UGIIP-2 project is that improvement of urban infrastructure and service delivery can be achieved more effectively by linking with governance reform and creating proper incentive mechanism.

The recent infrastructure development schemes implemented by the Government includes roads, street lights etc.

Upazila Fisheries and Livestock Office distribute fish fry and fertilizers for fish and vaccination of poultry and other livestock to the people with free of cost. They also arrange training session to train up the people.

Upazila Parishad sometimes takes initiatives for forestation and distribution of saplings.

Upazila Health Complex only implements a few activities like vaccination, training on child and mother health etc.

Electrification of Sreemongal is directed by Polli Biddutayan Board (Rural Electrification Board- REB), which has a master plan to avail 100% electrify to whole Upazila including the Pourashava area. The master plan includes priority basis electrification to the residents and the commercial establishments. Main responsibility of DPHE within the Pourashava is to design, implement and maintain the water supply system.

Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) has an upcoming project of construction of road, culverts and box culverts within the Pourashava.
